EU Foreign Ministers approve a tough package of sanctions, by Karin Kails (Deutsche Welle)

On Monday 26 July 2010, the EU Council approved a new round of sanctions against Iran and its nuclear programme. AJC Transatlantic Institute program director Joshua Goodman discusses the impact of the sanctions in an interview with Deutsche Welle TV.

Iran's European Enablers, by Benjamin Weinthal

The dearth of academics, journalists and policy makers focusing on the dangers of European-Iranian economic relations puts Emanuele Ottolenghi in a lonely place—but all the more significant for that. In "Under a Mushroom Cloud: Europe, Iran and the Bomb," Mr. Ottolenghi not only lays out the scope of Iran's military aims, but reveals Tehran's codependence with European industry and provides concrete prescriptions for how continental leaders can stop Iran from developing a nuclear bomb...

Under a Mushroom Cloud - Europe, Iran and the Bomb".

“The Age of Revolutions has Come to an End in Iran”, by Benjamin Joffe-Walt

Are the Muslim clerics who control Iran heading for a split?

The post-election upheaval in Iran has triggered rumors of a growing rift within the country’s clerical establishment.

In a series of interviews leading Iranian analysts denied that the unrest poses a serious threat to the power and influence of Iran’s Islamic regime, describing the predicted fall of the Ayatollahs as ‘wishful thinking’ on the part of Western commentators.

Under a mushroom cloud: A summary of the latest book on Europe and the Iranian nuclear issue, by Elie Fawaz

Iran has captured the world’s attention since its illegal nuclear program was unveiled in 2002 by the Iranian opposition in exile, the National Council of Resistance in Iran. Since then, the world has been wondering how to deal with such a perilous and complicated crisis. Direct negotiations, threats of strikes on Iranian nuclear plants and UN resolutions have proven ineffective, as Tehran is adamant about pursuing its program and as debate paralyzes the international community.

Iran must be stopped in its tracks now. This stark message from two new books on Iran’s nuclear threat is bound to raise cheers in Israel and among Washington’s more hawkish Middle East watchers just as Binyamin Netanyahu paid his first visit to President Barack Obama since the two men took office.

Analyse hoe obama gevangenis helpen sluiten?, by unknown

Europe split on helping Obama on Guantanamo , by unknown

BRUSSELS, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Europe wants to be Barack Obama's best friend, but it is split on whether to help the U.S. President-elect on what could be one of his first and most symbolic decisions -- closing the Guantanamo prison.

Obama is expected to decide in his first days in office to shut down the prison for terrorism suspects at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, widely seen as a symbol of human rights abuses carried out in the name of the "war on terrorism".

U.S. slams Switzerland for signing huge gas deal with Iran, by unknown

BERLIN - Switzerland and Iran signed a huge deal on Monday for the supply of Iranian natural gas to Europe, sparking harsh criticism from the United States. Experts said the deal, worth an estimated 20 billion euros, may signal a renewed willingness by European companies to do business with Iran in the wake of a U.S. National Intelligence Estimate that essentially eliminated the possibility of an American military strike on Iran...

Israeli MP's: 'One year to stop Iran's nuclear capabilities, by Yossi Lempkowicz

Two members of the Knesset, Israel's parliament, said that if Iran’s nuclear capabilities to build a bomb are not stopped “it will be more difficult to cope with it in the future.” Speaking on Tuesday at the Transatlantic Institute, a Brussels-based think-tank dedicated to enhancing relations between the US and Europe, Dani Yatom and Isaac Ben-Israel, two retired senior officers from the Israeli army, didn’t rule out a US or  Israeli military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities...

L'Europa, gli ebrei e l'antisemitismo, by Ada Saverio
